Fatima Groups United (FGU) established in 1995 is a Family Resource Centre, responsible for the management and delivery of community based services/programmes as follows:-
Our arts project facilitates a wide range of arts programmes for children and adults particularly in the areas of music, visual arts, and cultural/oral history. Current groups operating include:- mens, womens and childrens arts projects, pre-school programme, schools initiatives, drawing room project, music club, street spectacle work and public art work, cultural archive, etc.
Our CE project provides valuable training and career paths for participants. The project operates a placement training programme where participants can be placed in the crèche, youth services, homework club, health project and arts, with the aim of gaining experience and seeking employment in these areas. The project also runs an education programme where participants engage in junior/leaving cert subjects and IT training. A large number of CE participants also staff and enable the F2 Centre to operate on a full-time basis. Staff also keep the external areas clean and tidy.
We provide a quality community based professional childcare service for children/families in Fatima and the surrounding area. The Creche focuses on the total development of the child in partnership with the child’s family in a child-centered environment. Currently the centre caters for 75 children from one year old to primary school age.
The project is involved in a number of initiatives particularly in the areas of digital media and film making. This work has enabled us to prepare people for further training in these areas. We work closely with the Fatima Digital Project where we’ve supported the establishment of a number of mens groups. We also have a knitting and stitching group.
The aim of this project is to develop environmental awareness within the community, establish high levels of area maintenance and improvement through resident’s direct participation in a range of activities.
The initiative aims to tackle the growing numbers of short and long term unemployed. We carry out regular audits with local people regarding their employment and training needs and develop responses including the development of a hairdressing/health & beauty induction course.
We organise regular events that promote social and cultural life, including festivals, Halloween, Easter and Summer events.
This initiative aims to provide a wide range of sporting and recreation activities in Fatima. This has included karate, kick-boxing, football, etc, for children and adults.
The Gymtastic childrens club provides a weekly physical, creative and fun club supporting children experiencing intellectual, learning or physical need.
Local people can access counsellors trained to help them explore issues such as relationship difficulties, sexual, physical or emotional abuse, anxiety, bereavement, parenting or any other difficulty you may be experiencing.
